           The simple past tense (સાદો ભૂતકાળ)

v  Past Simple Tense expresses an action that occurred in past. It expresses the following type past-actions:

v  An action occurred just a little while ago, An action which occurred on regular basis in past.

v  ક્રિયાપદના મૂળ રૂપને d કે ed પ્રત્યય જોડવાથી જે ક્રિયાપદનું ભૂતકાળમાં રૂપાતર થાય છે. તે ક્રિયાપદો ને નિયમિત ક્રિયાપદો કહે છે.

v  પ્રત્યય – ed

Ø  ક્રિયાપદ ના મૂળ રૂપ –ed પ્રત્યય લગાડવાથી અગ્રેજીમાં ભૂતકાળ નું રૂપ બને છે.

Play-played, walk-walked

Ø  ક્રિયાપદ ના મૂળ રૂપ અતે e હોય તો d પ્રત્યય લાગે.

Dance- danced,

Ø  ક્રિયાપદને અતે વ્યજન હોય, તે વ્યજન પહેલા પહેલા આખા શબ્દમાં એક જ સ્વર હોય તો ક્રિયાપદના મૂળ રૂપનો છેલો વ્યજન બેવડાવવો.

Stop-stopped, clap- clapped

Ø  ક્રિયાપદના અતે l હોય તો l બેવડવો.

Compel- compelled, excel- excelled

Ø  ક્રિયાપદના અતે y હોય, y ની પહેલા વ્યજન હોય તો y નો I કરી ed પ્રત્યય લગાવવો.

Marry-married, carry- carried

Ø  Y ની પહેલા સ્વર હોય તો ed પ્રત્યય લગાડી દો.

v  હકાર વાક્ય POSSITIVE SENTENCES:

Ø  Subject + Main verb + Object

Ø  Subject + Past simple form (or 2nd form of verb) + object

Ø  કર્તા + ક્રિયાપદનું d/ed વાળું રૂપ +અન્ય શબ્દો

§  I ate an apple.

§  He caught a bird in the bushes.

§  I met a friend in the market.

§  She worked in a factory.

§  The people paid less taxes in past.

§  The Ancients believed in superstitions.

§  I bought a laptop.

§  He applied for a job.

§  She prepared some tea for the guests.

§  They played the game properly.

§  You qualified the exam.

§  She laughed to see the joker.

§  She cleaned her room.

v  નકાર વાક્ય NEGATIVE SENTENCES:

Ø  Subject + Auxiliary verb + NOT + Main verb + Object

Ø  Subject + Did + Not + Base form (1st form of verb) + Object

Ø  કર્તા+did not +ક્રિયાપદનું મૂળ રૂપ +અન્ય શબ્દો

§  She did not qualify her exam.

§  He did not find any job.

§  He did not buy a car.

§  They did not go to college.

§  You did not eat the food.

§  I did not help him.

§  He did not come here.

§  She did not make a painting.

§  I did not complete my work.

§  Kids did not like the movie.

v  પ્રશ્નાથ વાક્ય INTERROGATIVE SENTENCES:

Ø  Auxiliary verb + Subject + Main verb + Object

Ø  Did + Subject + Base form (1st form of a verb) + Object

Ø  Did + કર્તા +ક્રિયાપદ નું મૂળ રૂપ + અન્ય શબ્દો

§  Did you watch that movie?

§  Did she laugh?

§  Did I call you?

§  Did they shift to their new home?

§  Did he bring his document?

§  Did you apply for the new job?

§  Did he meet you?

§  Did they buy a camera?

§  Did she sing a song?

§  Did he come here?

Ø  પ્રશ્નસૂચક શબ્દ + did + કર્તા + અન્ય શબ્દો

Ø  Who + ભૂતકાળ નું ક્રિયાપદ + અન્ય શબ્દો

v  ઉપયોગો

Ø  એવી ક્રિયાઓ કે જે ભૂતકાલમાં બની ગઈ છે. જેને વર્તમાન સાથે સંબધ નથી તે દર્શાવવા સાદો ભૂતકાળ વપરાય.

v  ઓળખ

Ø  Last evening-ગઈ સાંજે , Last Sunday-ગયા રવિવારે ,Last week-ગયા અઠવાડિયે ,Last year-ગયા વર્ષે , Once-એક વાર ,In 2002-2000માં ,Two days ago-બે દિવસ અગાઉ

v  ટૂંકા રૂપો યાદ રાખી લો.
